Your season 1 concert is this Sunday! Recapping info below for the weekend. Please don’t be late this week as there is a lot to get through and we will have to be strict on time.

Saturday 27 May – rehearsal with Jon Tooby – extended till 1pm – at UWA Callaway Auditorium

  • 9 – 10:45am – Bernstein and Prokofiev (timing decided by Jon on day)
  • 10:45 – 11am – break
  • 11 – 11:55am – Vaughan Williams with Paul Wright
  • Change over time required to reset space to accommodate and set choir (est. 5-10mins)
  • 12:00 – 1pm – Jarman (x2) with Penrhos College Combined Choir

Please pack away your stand and chair once finished at rehearsal if you are not in the Vaughan Williams or Jarman as we will require the space to fit the choir in.

Percussion we will pack the truck as soon as the Timps are available to go in the truck as they are required first. You can get everything else ready and packed waiting in the under-croft area if any of you are available to do this earlier.

Sunday 28 May – at Perth Concert Hall

Please be aware that the underground Perth Concert Hall Carpark is CLOSED until further notice by City of Perth. The outdoor carpark on Terrace Road is still open.

  • Percussion will setup from 8:30am.
  • Sunday morning rehearsal will begin at 10am sharp. Please arrive by 9:45am at the latest to sign in, unpack, and warm up.
    Parents are advised that only students are permitted through stage door and into the backstage area. This is due to limited space inside. If assistance is needed with large instruments, please talk to stage door and they will call for staff assistance.
  • Please remember if you need to ask for assistance with any adjustments to your chair or stage positioning, this is done prior to 10 minutes before rehearsal starts. If you ask after this time, your requests may not be possible until the next suitable break.

Rehearsal order Sun 28 May will be:

  1. Jarman The Sea of Berries
  2. Jarman Pemulwuy
  3. Vaughan Williams The Lark Ascending
  4. Bernstein Overture to Candide
  5. Prokofiev Symphony No.5

Please arrive in plenty of time to be ready if you are not required for all pieces. Timings will be flexible on the day so I cannot guarantee specific start times for each piece.

  • No open drink containers onstage please, only containers with lids. WATER ONLY PLEASE.
  • Double basses please BYO stool.
  • Cellos, basses, trombones, tuba – you can unpack your instruments on prompt side wings. (This means in the backstage area on the side of the stage you sit on.) There will be much more room for you to unpack your instruments back there. Just ask me, I’ll point you in the right direction if you don’t know where this is.
  • The green room will be reserved for the choir.
  • Orchestra can use the orchestral tearoom (main room), dressing rooms, star rooms 2, 3, & 4 to unpack/warm up in. Please avoid unpacking and leaving cases in walkways, in front of doors, or in emergency exits.
  • Entry to PCH will be through stage door. This is accessible via the driveway between the Duxton Hotel and PCH, off St Georges Terrace. The main foyer is not open in the mornings so you can only get in through the backstage gates.
  • Please sign in to the WAYO attendance sheet for the morning and evening.
  • You can wear civvies (normal clothes) for the morning rehearsal on Sunday.
  • Everyone please be out of PCH by 12:45pm. No one is allowed to stay onsite. You may leave your instruments backstage. The venue will be locked between.

 

The concert order is:

  • Bernstein Overture to Candide
  • Vaughan Williams The Lark Ascending
  • Jarman The Sea of Berries
  • Jarman Pemulwuy
  • Interval – 20 minutes
  • Prokofiev Symphony No.5
  • Backstage and onstage is open from 4pm.
  • Concert call is 4:30pm. Be ready warmed up and individually tuned by 4:45pm.
  • The house opens at 4:30pm. Full concert attire must be worn onstage after this time.
  • Concert attire is All Black.
  • Concert start is 5pm.
  • The concert is scheduled to finish around 6:45pm.
  • At the end of the concert, please close your music folder. This saves us so much time packing up. THANKYOU!
  • You may take group photos onstage after the concert, once given the clearance by the stage manager to go back on.
  • Please keep the dock area and walkways backstage clear so percussion can easily pack away after the concert.
