Positions in all of our ensembles are declared vacant at the end of each year, with auditions held for each orchestra and instrument in November/December.

How to Apply

Applications for 2024 have now closed. If you have any questions, please contact us.

1. Do Your Research

The 2024 Prospectus contains all the information you need about the audition process, and expectations of being a WA Youth Orchestras member. Even if you have been in one of our ensembles before, it is essential that you do your research and read all 6 pages of the 2024 information.

2. Check Entry Requirements

Read the ensemble descriptions or attend a concert to find out which ensemble you might like to join. Check whether your instrument is on the eligible list for the ensemble, and whether your ability meets the approximate minimum AMEB grade.

3. Check Your Diary

Are you free on the audition dates or do you have to request a late audition?
Are you free at the times when the ensemble rehearses during school term?

4. Apply Online

Fill out your application form online. The fee to apply is $45 payable upon application.

5. Prepare for your Audition

You can start preparing your short own choice piece or excerpt from a piece now. Audition excerpts will be emailed to you two weeks before your scheduled audition, along with your audition time.

  • Monday 22 January Second round offers emailed

  • Thursday 8 February Membership fees due
