The inaugural performance of the Merge Initiative | Perth Concert Hall

In a symbiotic exploration of movement and sonority, Rite & Revolution celebrated Western Australian stories with a collaboration between the WA Youth Orchestra and choreographer Scott Elstermann. Combining the awesome force of WAYO’s 100-piece flagship orchestra with 25 guest artists and troupe of independently selected dancers, this concert was a truly unique offering in WAYO’s considerable performance history.

With the support of our sponsors, donors and supporters, we delivered a performance experience that was diverse, innovative and impactful to an audience in excess of 1000 patrons.

At WAYO, the goal has always been to create an experience for our members that nurtures their creative education whilst being representative of the community and culture they exist within. The intent with Rite & Revolution was to build an opportunity that was demanding, testing and forward looking. We are proud to demonstrate the success and community impact of this project in the following pages.

As part of WA Youth Orchestras’ ongoing commitment to pay it forward to our community, we signed on to donate $5 from every ticket sold for Rite & Revolution to Support Act. Support Act is the Music Industry’s charity, providing crisis relief to artists, crew and music workers across all genres who are unable to work due to illness, injury, a mental health issue or some other crisis, including the impact of COVID-19 on live music. WAYO has been able to donate close to $5,000 as a result of your support of this initiative.

Special thanks to WAYO’s Principal Partner Woodside who proudly presented this show.

We are so grateful for this partnership and all that it provides to our members and the broader Western Australian community.
