Peter Moore OAM Scholarship

Over the past 4 years, the Peter Moore OAM Scholarship has awarded over $25,000 to assist and inspire tertiary students.

The Peter Moore OAM Scholarship will again be awarded to up to five 2026 university students in the WA Youth Orchestra. Each scholarship covers WAYO membership fees ($720), plus an additional $500 award. Established in 2020, the scholarship honours our long-term and outstanding Music Director, Peter Moore. Current and prospective students from the UWA Conservatorium of Music and Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), are encouraged to apply for auditions and join our amazing activities for 2026.

Leader Scholarships

Two Violin Leader Scholarships will be awarded, each covering 2027 WAYO fees ($720) plus an award of $500. These scholarships are available to violinists only, as specified by the donor, and are typically awarded to members in leadership positions.
There is no application process for these scholarships — they are awarded following auditions and communicated with offers.

Instrument Scholarships

WA Youth Orchestras, with the support of some generous donors, provides a range of instruments to members through its Instrument Scholarship Program. This initiative supports talented young musicians who have made significant contributions to WAYO, offering access to quality instruments they may not otherwise be able to purchase, including rare or specialised auxiliary instruments.

Scholarship Violins

Up to 10 high-quality violins (valued at over $200,000 in total) will be available to 2027 members by application.

The WAYO 18th Century Cello

The renowned 18th-century WAYO cello and W.E. Hill & Sons bow, valued at over $50,000, is currently awarded to principal cello, Emma Luckley.
In recent years, the cello has been awarded to WAYO Principal Cellists Finlay Labuschagne, Tiffany Lee & Miah Smith.

Auxiliary instruments

Thanks to our generous donors, WAYO also has a collection of wind and brass instruments that are made available free of charge for musicians in WAYO ensemble use. This includes oboes, cor anglais, contra-bassoon, bass & e-flat clarinets, piccolo, and alto & bass flute, cornets and C-tuba.
